Eagles Varsity Football start off season with a big 40-17 Home Win

The Ashley High School Screaming Eagles start out Season 1-0 with 40-17 win over Swansboro at Home this past Friday Night. After a forced fumble with Swansboro in scoring position, the Eagles marched down the field 90-yards. Jacob Reed Senior Quarterback found Senior Wide Reciver Corey Whaley for a 46-yard completion on the 1st Play of the drive, before scoring on a 15-yard run by Eagles Sean Ross. Quarterback Reed set this play up with a double reverse, a play designed by Coach Turner. Eagles were up 6-0 after the 2-point conversion failed. The Eagles went ahead 12-0 after anoth Rushing TD, followed by Freddie Thames making the 2-point conversion brininging the score 14-0 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Field Goal by Swansboro in the 2nd quarter got them on the board for the 1st time in the game. Followed by a Ashley score on Pass completion making it a 20-3 game and another 2-point conversion made it 22-3. A TD Swansboro Plus point after brought the score to 22-10, before Ashley rushed in another TD to give them a 28-10 Halftime lead. After a scoreless 3rd quarter the Eagles started off the 4th quarter with a rushing TD to make the score 34-10. The Eagles scored on a 2nd rushing TD in the quarter with 1 minute remaining giving them a 40-10 lead.
The Eagles defense let Swansboro get past them in the final minute after returning a Kick off for a Touchdown bringing the final score to 40-17.
Sean Ross, Bradley Plyler (111 Yard Rushing), Freddie Thames, Zack Williams and Corey Whaley all scored Touchdowns. Senior Jacob Reeds was on fire in the quarter back position. On defense Joe Barbera had 3 sacks and Grant Grenyon had a forced fumble.  The Eagles will be at home again this Friday as they host Fairmont High School at 7PM.
