Cape Fear Flyers compete in the 2015 Powerade North Carolina State Games

Flyers bring home 15 Medals

The Cape Fear Flyers Junior Olympic Track Team traveled to Durham Memorial Stadium this past Saturday to compete in the 2015 North Carolina State Games. The Flyers ended up the day walking away with almost every athlete that made the trip hitting a personal best time or mark in 1 or all of their events. The Flyers also walked away with 4 Gold Medals, 7 Silver Medals, and 4 Bronze Medals on the day including a sweep in the 1500 Meter Run for 17-18 Boys.
1st Event the Flyers had on the Track was the 3,000 Meter Run. The Flyers were able to pull in 2 Bronze Medals in that race with Paxton Chitty taking a 3rd Place finish with a time of 12:34 in the 11-12 Girls and Zachary Knott also taking 3rd with a 11:27 in the 11-12 Boys Race. Other finishers were: Luke Ward 6th 12:53 and 8th John Padula 13:17 in the 11-12 Boys Division; Owen Thorndike took 6th with a time of 11:00 in the 13-14 Boys Division; and in the 17-18 Boys Division Thomas Avery took 5th with a 10:16 and Chris Avery 6th at 10:38. Daniel Wike took 6th Place with a 18.34 in the 13-14 Boys 100 Hurdles. In the 100 Meter Dash Zaccori Stalls had a 17.34 in the 9-10 Boys Division, Evan Acome ran a 16.19 in the 11-12 Boys Division, Anna Grace Padula had a 14.96 in the 13-14 Girls Division and Farrah Newton a 15.45; In the 800 Meter Run Elle Sawyer had a 3:02 and took 8th in the 9-10 Girls and Brooke Pletcher had a 3:39; In the 9-10 Boys Layith Monroe finished in 9th with a 3:06 in his 1st Track Meet; Taj Monroe finishied in 10th Place in a large field of 11-1 Boys with a 2:41, In the 13-14 Girls Anna Grace Padula had a 3:04 and wa 7th in her heat, In the 13-14 Boys Owen Thorndike had a 2:$1 and Jacob Sawyer had a 3:50, Hunter Browe was able to take 2nd Place in his heat with a 2:15 and Sam Hagestrom had a 2:50, and in the 17-18 Boys James Avery was 10th with a 2:10 and Dakota Spruley was 14th with a 2:15; In the 400 Meter Run Elle Sawyer had a 1:23 and sister Aspen a 1:28 in the 9-10 Girls Division, In the 13-14 Boys Luke Ellis had a 1:01 to take 18th of 45; The 1500 Meter Run saw the largest Medal Count for the Flyers with 5 Medals. In the 9-10 Girls Sara Martin was able to take 2nd Place with a huge PR of 5:50 and Maris Toppin took 4th Place with a 6:14, In the 11-12 Girls Paxton Chitty had a 5:57 to take 8th, In the 11-12 Boys Zachary Knott was 4th with a 5:22, Taj Monroe was 8th with a 5:37, John Padula was 10th with a 5:57 and Lule Ward right behind at 6:03, In the 13-14 Boys Owen Thorndike was 8th with a 5:!4 and Jacob Sawyer ran a personal best time of 8:10, In the 15-16 Girls Ryleigh McIntyre took 4th with a 6:36, In the 15-16 Boys Hunter Browe was able to hold on to 3rd Place with a 4:43; In the 17-18 Boys the Flyers Pulled off a sweep which including and battle for 1st Place between Chris Avery and Dakota Spruley. Chris edged out Dakota at the finish with both running a 4:37, Thomas Avery was in hot pursuit and took 3rd Place with a 4:39, and James Avery was in 5th with a 4:42; In the 15-16 Boys 400 Hurdles Hunter Browe finished in 10th with a 1:15; In the 200 Meter Dash Layith Monroe was able to take 36th of 53 with a 34.94 and Zaccori Stalls had a 36.34, Luke Ellis was 23rd with a 28.50; The Last Event on the Track was the 4x400 Relay and the Flyers team of Maris Toppin, Sara Martin, Aspen Sawyer and Holly McKee was able to take 2nd Place with a time of 6:14.
The Flyers also competed and medaled in several field Events. In the Javelin 17-18 Men Russell Corbett was able to win his 1st ever Javelin contest with a throw of 110-01 ft. Madison Bonser was 4th in the 17-18 Girls Javelin with a throw of 39-07ft, Ava Toppin was 7th in the Turbo Javelin with a throw of 43 ft, In the 9-10 Girls Javelin the Flyers have 5 competing with Maris Toppin leading the way at 6th Place 34-05, 7th Aspen Sawyer 31-04, 8th Sara Martin 31-02, 13th Brooke Pletcher 26-04, and Holly MCKee 15th 25-01; In 13-14 Boys Shot Put Hunter Ratcliff was 5th with a throw of 26-03.75, Russell Corbett was able to take 1st Place in a close Shot Put contest with a throw of 52-08.75, Madison Bonser was 9th with a 20.09ft throw, Ava Toppin had a 6th Place finish in the 11-12 Girls Shot Put with a 19-02ft throw; In 13-14 Boys Discus Hunter Ratcliff was 6th with a throw of 64-01, In the 17-18 Boys Russell Corbett was 4th with a throw of 144-04ft, Madison Bonser was 9th with a 64ft throw, In the 15-16 Boys Sam Hagestrom was able to take 7th Place at 41-08ft, also taking home a Gold Medal was Ava Toppin with a 55-01ft throw; In the 17-18 Mens Long Jump James Avery went 16-10ft to take 6th Place, In the 15-16 Boys Sam Hagestrom was 11th with a jump of 11-09.75, In the 13-14 Boys Daniel Wike was 18th with a jump of 14ft, In the 11-12 Boys Evan Acome had a jump of 11-01.5 to take 19th Place, In the 9-10 Boys Zaccori Stalls was 17th with a 9-09 ft jump and Layth Monroe was 23rd at 8-04; In the 9-10 Girls High Jump Holly McKee reached a new personal best taking 5th Place with a jump of 2-11.5 ft.
The Flyers will be traveling to 1 more meet this weekend in Myrtle Beach, SC before their USATF North Carolina State Championships which start June 25th in Greensboro, NC.
