Cape Fear Flyers compete in the 2014 USATF Junior Olympic Cross Country Nationals against best in the United States

The Cape Fear Flyers Junior Olympic Cross Country Team set 25 Athletes to the USATF Junior Olympic National Cross Country Championships in Myrtle Beach this past weekend. The course was held on a beautiful Whispering Pines Golf Course and with some slight hills it made for some fast times.
The 1st race of the day was the 8 and Under Girls 2K Race (1.25 Miles). The Flyers won their State Meet back in December and lead by Maris Toppin, Holly McKee, Brooke Pletcher, Alex Walton, Quinn Womble and Jade Wade. Maris finished in 31st Place to lead the team to a 12th Place finish with a time of 8:49. Holly had a season best with a 10:02, Brooke 10:17 also season best. The next event the Flyers had a athlete in was the 11-12 Girls 3K Race (1.9 Miles). Mary-Petyon Moffit ran a smart race to run her season best with a time of 12:08 a personal best time and finishing in 201st out of 422 in the Nation. She has only been running for 6 months.
The Boys 15-16 5K Race (3.1 Miles) the Flyers finished in 20th place as a team. Lead by  Thomas Avery with a 19:19, Adam Ortega 19:49, James Avery 20:10, Harris Hord 21:35, George Malahias 22:07, Bodi Lowe 23:11 and Alex Signorello 24:59. The Boys 17-18 5K Race (3.1 Miles) only 1 of the 3 Flyers that made this race were able to attend the meet. Ashley High School Senior Peter Vogiatzis
