CAROLINA BEACH - Someone decided to put the Carolina Beach Police boat up for sale on over the weekend. Only one problem, it's not for sale. It's not uncommon for people to scam unsuspecting buyers with bogus ads on Craigslist, but pranking the police department was a surprise. The ad was placed  on September 20th at 12:22am under boats for sale by owner and stated, "Boat for sale - $80000 (Carolina beach s)". The ad included two photos showing the boat with a for sale sign attached. The ad stated, "Sweet boat for sale loud siren bright lights and low hours, #$@% runs great I mean the towns kept it pretty much pristine and we never use it anyway I mean come on we are cops not marina enforcement why do we need it any way. Starts at $8,000 make your best offer. Ask for Sam smith when you refer to this ad."
Carolina Beach Police Chief Ken Hinkle said it was obviously a prank and the department is looking into it. As of September 24th at 1:53am in the morning the ad was still posted on
The signs placed on the boat read, "For Sale By Owner" and read, "Low hours. Runs Great. Lightly used..." and included a contact number for Town Hall.
