CAROLINA BEACH  - People are dying due to COVID-19 and you should reconsider your travel plans this holiday season. If you still want to visit family, make sure it's limited or share the holiday online virtually via a Zoom session or a Facetime call.
We are all eager to return to a sense of normalcy in our daily lives, but COVID-19 hasn't been solved to date with a vaccine. Several companies claim they are on the way in a short time, but until they are proven in real life scenarios (in the populous) we can only cling to hope that everything will work out in the long run.
Some health experts put the death rate for American's, as of Tuesday November 24th, at one death per minute.
As of November 24th, New Hanover County recorded 6,795 cases. Of those cases, 1,053 were presumed active while 5,698 were "recovered" with a total of 53 deaths in the County to date.
With the increase in positive cases in New Hanover County and the increase in the number of residents hospitalized over the last several weeks, coupled with the Thanksgiving holiday, there is great concern that our county may reach a more critical level in our fight against the virus.
As of 9 a.m. today, we have had 53 people in our community who have passed away from COVID-19, and we don’t want there to be more.
Residents must do all they can now to protect themselves and those around them, and prevent our hospital system from becoming overburdened. Your work to fight this virus is increasingly important and can help save lives during this critical time.
Download the state’s SlowCOVIDNC app that will help identify if you have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19, and visit www.Health.NHCgov.com/Coronavirus for continuously updated data, resources and COVID-19 information.
