CAROLINA BEACH - The Pleasure Island Chamber of Commerce announced the line-up of bands for the 2021 Beach Music Festival now scheduled for August 14th.

The Chamber serves Carolina Beach, Kure Beach, Fort Fisher and southern New Hanover County.

The 2020 festival was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to Alannah Keeler with the Chamber of Commerce, "The festival is an all-day event that takes place on and around the beach in front of the Carolina Beach Boardwalk, with bands performing on the boardwalk’s oceanfront stage."

This year the festival will see some familiar popular beach music bands return to the stage including Jim Quick and Coastline, The Band of Oz and a new band for the line up,  Blackwater Rhythm and Blues.

Fans can begin buying tickets in advance for $35 on May 3rd at the Chamber of Commerce at Town Hall, 1121 N. Lake Park Blvd in Carolina Beach. Tickets will also be available for purchase on Eventbrite.com and other retail locations.

Tickets purchased at the gate will be $40 and fans can bring their own food, chairs and coolers to the event.

Lynn Halterman, Chair Emeritus of the Chamber Board and Chair of this year’s Tourism Committee explained, "The Carolina Beach Music Festival is the longest running beach music festival in the United States that is still held on the beach," and, "It’s a truly unique event that draws beach music enthusiasts from up and down the East Coast who get to enjoy a day of great music, shag dancing and the very best that Pleasure Island has to offer. We had to cancel the Beach Music Festival last year due to Covid so we’re anticipating even greater interest in this year’s event. We’re hoping for attendance of 2,500, if not more."

Gates will open at 10:00am with entertainment starting at 11:00am. The Chamber is seeking corporate sponsorships for the  event ranging from $500 to $7,500.

According to the Chamber, "Jim Quick and Coastline, like their namesake the Atlantic Coastline Railroad, have been traveling the tracks of the southeast and connecting with loyal fans for more than 25 years. The band pulls from Soul, Blues, R&B, and Americana to create their own genre of music known as Swamp Soul. Front man Jim Quick and his band maintain an average of 250 tour dates per year and are best known for capturing the spirit of musical traditions born and bred in small town Americana."

According to the Chamber, "The Band of Oz originated in Eastern North Carolina in 1967 as a part-time band playing frat parties and high school proms across the south. Ten years later in 1977, the band went on the road full time. Since then, the Band of Oz has made an exceptional name for itself and has performed at top venues and Beach Music Festivals throughout the southeast. Today’s Band of Oz features 8 members, a full horn section and performs more than 200 shows per year."

According to the Chamber, "Based out of Clarkton, NC, Blackwater Rhythm and Blues is well known for its high-energy live performances and its dedication to Beach Music, Blues and Funk. This 8-member band is comprised of talented and varied musicians and together they perform about 100 shows per year. The band’s song Dance Tonight reached No. 1 on the Beach Music Top 40 in 2015."
